Save the date! Lambertville’s 35th Annual Shad Festival is happening Saturday, April 30, and Sunday, May 1 — taking over four blocks of downtown Lambertville, filling the streets with artists and specialty vendors.
The festival began in 1981 as a method of highlighting the great local art that Lambertville has to offer.  It coincided with the first blooms of Spring and the annual shad run, when the largest fish in the herring family – the American Shad – migrates from salt water to fresh water to reproduce.  The festival has grown from a local celebration to an award-winning regional event.

Chefs prepare shad in a variety of tasty ways – Smoked Shad,  Shad & Shrimp Fritters (a specialty created by Paul Eschallier of Bell’s Tavern), Shad Sandwiches, and more. If fish isn’t your thing, you will not be disappointed. The line-up includes a variety of food vendors, artisan shopping, and live entertainment. This year will mark the return of a live music stage with bands playing throughout both days.
On Sunday, there is an auction of one-of-a-kind posters created by local artists, with all proceeds supporting scholarships for local high school students pursuing a higher education in the arts.

  1. This festival is called Shadfest. I understand celebrating the fish named SHAD.
My question : Will there be fresh SHAD available to purchase?
I will be waiting for your reply.
    Thank you.

  2. In the past years when I have gone some of the vendors COOK shad for the tasting. I have NOT seen where you can buy the fish to take home to cook. That is all I know from attending the shadfest.

  3. We might be interested in setting up a tent at ShadFest so please contact me with details via email or at 908-783-5995.
    Thanks,
    Buddy

  4. Could you provide some info on the Rubber Duck race? When does it happen and what is the route? And, most importantly, how can I go about sponsoring some ducks?!
    Thanks!

  5. The Lewis Fishery fishes on both Saturday and Sunday. They are able to sell what is in their nets on Saturday, unfortunately, not on Sunday. The cost is $6 for roe, $4 for buck, and they are sold whole. Times of the hauls are: 10:30a & 1:00p Saturday. Demonstration haul Sunday at 1:00p on Lewis Island.

  6. Shadfest!
Another year filled with tourists trashing our town while funneling monies to vendors from outside the area. I do not know a single lambertville resident who looks forward to shad fest. Traffic, trash, no parking, rude people, terrible food.
    Ban Shad Fest. ASAP.

Shad’Toberfest Canceled

As you may have heard, Lambertville was devastated by flooding from Ida.

We decided to cancel Shad’Tober. The decision was not reached lightly. However, we could not burden the already stressed infrastructure of the City. The festival brings thousands of visitors to Lambertville and that burden would not help our City right now. The need in Lambertville is great with over half the homes in the City affected by Hurricane Ida’s unprecedented flooding. There are some people that will spend a year getting their house back to a livable condition and some who will never return to their beloved homes because of the severe damage they sustained. In light of this tragedy, we are working on a fundraiser to benefit those flood victims hit hardest by
Hurricane Ida. Stay tuned for details.
